“Jib Goes Shopping” for the ZX Spectrum

Last year (2006) I wrote a small game for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum for my ex-wife’s birthday: Jib Goes Shopping. You are Jib, trying to shop for as many diamonds as possible without getting caught by the evil Mu Uan.

My dear ex-wife, never much of a gamer, did not exactly go crazy about this present, but the kids at the party totally dug it, and it actually is quite a fun game. Check it out:

The game is written in C and built using a July 30, 2006 CVS snapshot of z88dk. If you use another release YMMV considerably.

The original party version did not have the animated title screen, the copyright message, and the joystick selection screen. (It tried to guess the joystick IF automatically, which later turned out to fail miserably in all cases but mine.) It did not have any of the source code comments either…

If you can get this to work on real hardware, please drop me a line, I have only ever run it in emulators.
